The record for the world’s largest pizza recognized by Guinness was created December 1990. This massive pizza was 121 ft in diameter and weighed in at an astounding 26,883 lbs. The Norwood Hypermarket claims to have used 9900 pounds of flour, 19800 pounds of tomato puree, 3690 pounds of cheese, and 19800 pounds of chopped onion. Whoever had the job of chopping the onions surely paid for it! The pizza was in preparation for the World Cup. The supermarket wanted to make a pie that would feed an entire stadium.
This record has yet to be challenged in over 20 years. Could the economic struggle have something to do with this? A pie of this proportion would take a large amount of time and dedication to achieve. The cooking method for this pie had to have been a challenge of epic proportions.
20 years is a long time to wait for a new world record… anyone up for a challenge?
